New students welcome
Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the Bagpipes? How about a snare, tenor, or bass drum? Our mission at QHPD is to teach anyone who wants to learn how to play these great instruments for free.
Whether it is the Great Highland Bagpipe or drums, whether you have played another instrument, can read music or not, all are welcome. Come by our regular Monday evening practices at 7pm to find out how to get started.

Our drummers include people of all ages!
Give us a call or drop us an email to find out more. The band practices Monday night at 7pm at the Monson Developmental Center (see map images below).
This is where we practice!
A few questions and answers
Q:Who do you accept as student?
A: Anyone that is interested, there are no prerequisites
Q:When are the classes?
A: They happen each night the band rehearses. The classes
run from 7pm to 8pm.
Q: Are they really free?
A: Yes, there are no costs except you must buy your own practice
instrument. For pipers that’s a practice chanter and for drummers it is a set of
drumsticks and a practice pad. We would suggest you contact us or come by for your
first lesson before purchasing either. Either way you will likely spend between $50
and $75.
Q: How long can I continue taking free lessons?
A: As long as you like!
Q: Do I need special practice music?
A: The Band provides your practice as well as
performance music.
Q: Who are the instructors?
A: The officers of the Highlanders teach in group sessions.
There’s little pressure! We like to have fun teaching too!
Q: Do I have to join the band?
A: No, you are not required to join. We hope you find
it fun and enjoyable and join us on your own!
